This prison was built in 1866 by the British colonial government and was used for incarcerating freedom fighters during the struggle for independence. After independence, this was used as a house for regular criminals until it was closed in 2002. In 2008 the government of Karnataka converted this prison into Freedom Park HSR layout. This park serves as a memorandum for the sacrifices made by the Indian freedom fighters during the whole era of the struggle for independence.
