History of Lalbagh
Lalbagh Botanical Garden was established in Bangalore by Hyder Ali in the year 1760 as a private garden. Having its roots connected to royalty, Tipu Sultan alongside British and Indian doyens improved the garden by expanding the area and adding different plant species. Tipu Sultan finished the design of the entire grounds as he was inspired by the lovely gardens of Sira in the district of Karnataka, Tumkur.
It was created in the Mughal style and there are over thousands of different species found. He even brought exotic flowers from places like France, Arabia, Persia, Afghanistan, and others into this historic garden to add to its beauty. Many other officials were involved in the creation of this project including William Munroe, Sir Mark Cubbon, John Cameron, A. Black, Rao Bahadur H.C. Javaraya, K. Nanjappa, Dr. M.H. Marigowda and more.
