Is Agara Lake Artificial or Natural?

The natural beauty of Agara Lake, one of Bangalore's lakes, is well-known. It covers 98 acres and has been inhabited since the seventh century. Bangalore's historical archives confirm the lake's existence.

The lake's water was once heavily utilized for human and agricultural consumption. The Agara Lake area is close to the outer ring road's Koramangala and HSR Layout neighbourhoods. The natural beauty of this lake has always drawn those who wanted to see migratory birds.

What Surrounds The Agara Lake?

A huge watershed surrounds the lake. Formerly, the HSR and other rainfall from this watershed reliably kept the lake at its current level. There was additional water in the Madivala Lake from the Raja Kaluve. Bellandur Lake, adjacent to Agara Lake, received water overflowing from Agara Lake.

Is Agara Lake Polluted?

Excessive water pollution and inadequate lake maintenance had transformed this once lovely lake into a garbage dump and mosquito breeding ground. The HSR catchment region also lost its water supply during the flyover construction at the 14th Main and ORR intersection, and it still needs to be restored. The lake regained its lost glory thanks to the local people and the government. People, now and then, have started asking about How Deep Agara Lake is once again.

Attractions Around Agara Lake

Though all lakes face similar problems, different ones also provide unique obstacles. Agara Lake, surrounded by roads on all three sides and the focus of a large court battle to avoid encroachments, looks better and has more species, thanks to the surrounding wetland areas. The major Rajakaluve and shoulder drains from the road are the primary conduits for the lake's rainwater runoff.

Wetlands of Agara Lake

Wetlands are home to a wide variety of animals and plants, and the plant life there acts as a natural filter, purifying the water before it flows into the main body of water. The makeshift Constructed Wetlands (CW) around Agara Lake clean up wastewater from cities and stormwater and have maintained Agara Lake Bangalore's depth. CW is a constructed system that purifies wastewater by the action of soil, microbes, and vegetation.

Entry and Exit (The Inlet and Outlet of Agara Lake)

The Inlet's higher elevation keeps sewage-contaminated water out, and its multi-tiered architecture keeps floating debris out. The lake has eight inlets, including the Rajakaluve, Sarjapur Road shoulder, and HSR Layout secondary drains. Water flows through the meshed area into the silt tank, where floating garbage is trapped before entering the staged Wetlands. A mesh screen protects the waste water exit (Rajakaluve) from floating rubbish during floods. Bellandur Lake receives this outlet.
