The name of Jakkur Lake is mentioned amongst the biggest lakes in Bangalore. This stale water type Jakkur Lake Park is spread across a huge area. The lake is situated in the northeast region of Bangalore. During the 16th Century, this lake was built as a necessary water source for mankind. Let's find out how big Jakkur Lake is.

Jakkur Lake Location and Area

As we have already told you Jakkur Lake is situated in the northeast region of Bangalore. The official location of this place is the following - Jakkur Lake, Agrahara, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560064. The lake and its surrounding park are big.


The name of the lake is taken from the local wetland Jakkur. The lake is spread over 35 ha or 160 acres of land. It has many islands attached which make the area of the lake huge. The overall Jakkur Lake area is 1.5 km long. So, you can now understand how big the lake is. 

What is the Total Area of Jakkur Lake?

Jakkur Lake's total area is huge, approximately 160 Acres or 6,47,497 square meters. Within this total area of land, the water flows to 139 Acres of land, which is approximately 5,62,513 sqm. 

How Long is the Jakkur Lake Walking Track? 

Jakkur Lake also has a walking trail which is quite big. People used to come here to use this trail for walking, jogging, cycling etc. This walking trail is surrounded by the lake and is 5.4 km or 3.36 miles long.


One circle around the lake is equivalent to 7,000-foot steps. The walking track has an elevation gain of 144.3 ft. Jakkur Lake walking track distance, from point to point is 2.3 miles. The local people are frequent users of this walking track. 

How Deep is Jakkur Lake?

As per the Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore Jakkur Lake belongs to one of those 6 lakes in Bangalore that has good water quality and depth. Currently, due to the urbanization work, the feeder channels of the lake are getting blocked and this is affecting the depth of the lake. Still, this 200-year-old Jakkur lake has a depth of 3 meters

The Jakkur Lake is one of the biggest and oldest man-made lakes in Bangalore. Jakkur Lake's depth has reduced a lot due to continuous urbanization works, pollution, dirt, entry of untreated sewage etc. However, the government intervened in the matter and arranged lake rejuvenation programs to improve the scenario.

Conclusion

Bangalore has 189 lakes in it amongst which the water quality of Jakkur Lake is still great. This giant lake also has many islands. The stormwater source that keeps the streams of the lake wet, has decreased in recent years, making the streams dry. This is also affecting the depth and length of the lake. Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) are jointly managing this lake and efficiently solving the issues affecting the lake.
