Constructed across the Arkavathy River in 1894 and to address the city's needs for drinking water, Sir K. Seshadri Iyer, the Dewan of the former Mysore state, and M. C. Hutchins, the chief engineer of Mysore, created Hesaraghatta Lake. (Source).
